The Food Pantries for the Capital District (TFP) is a coalition of more
than 65 food pantries in the Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and
Schenectady Counties of NY. Since 1979, it has been fighting hunger
and poverty in the Capital Region.
In 2021, TFP established a partnership with GyvLINK to address the
challenge of food insecurity experienced by families - especially after
Thanksgiving and Christmas.
As typical holiday food drives come to a close, TFP
and GyvLINK initiated a new winter campaign, "Harsher After
the Holidays" - a drive to support food pantries served
by TFP and the unprecedented number of individuals and
families facing food insecurity and poverty.
TFP and GyvLINK's campaign solicited corporate and
individual donations. The innovative collaboration
caught the attention of local news and media outlets
resulting in greater public awareness and donations.
GyvLINK outreach drove a significant increase in corporate and individual donations. TFP received over 1,500 items for distribution to TFP member pantries. These items were in response to specific pantry requests. In addition to food donations, a member pantry was able to secure a standing freezer to fulfill a critical need in their operations. GyvLINK's matching software platform significantly reduced donation waste and the cost of expensive warehousing. The TFP-GyvLINK partnership also benefited from increased media coverage and public awareness.
"Thank you to GyvLINK for matching our needs to corporate donors for in-kind support! We’re grateful to be able to use this new platform to help our network of more than 65 food pantries throughout the Capital District and the more than 65,000 people they serve." -Natasha Pernicka, Executive Director
